Mandatory Inspections

Mandatory inspections are required under the Building Act 1993 and Building Regulations 2018.

These inspections must be performed by the Relevant Building Surveyor or by an Inspector appointed by the Relevant Building Surveyor.

At Nepean Building Permits, we have two full-time in-house inspectors servicing the Mornington Peninsula area. For building works outside this region, we engage specialist local contractors to carry out inspections.

What Are the Mandatory Inspections?

Common mandatory inspections include:

  • Prior to placing footings: (pre-poly, blinding, stump holes, and pads)
  • Prior to pouring concrete: (pre-pour steel, core fill walls, pool steel)
  • Completion of framework: (sub-floor, wall, and roof framing)
  • Final inspection: (completion of all building works)

How Do I Know Which Inspections Are Required?

The specific mandatory inspections for your project will be listed on your Building Permit. These inspections must be arranged with Nepean Building Permits and must be completed and approved before work can proceed to the next stage.
